Personal care for Richmond families

A to Z Home Care helps families explore Medicaid-funded personal care, respite, and qualifying family caregiver arrangements. We focus on practical daily support such as help with bathing, dressing, toileting, eating, and mobility when included in an appropriate care plan.

Our confirmed service areas are Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield. Being within a service area does not guarantee staffing for every schedule or approval for every service. Call about the address and support needed so we can review the situation.

Finding the right starting point in Richmond

Richmond is an independent city, so a Richmond mailing address should not be used to guess which local social services office handles a person’s case. The City of Richmond’s Adult Services information includes Medicaid waiver screenings. Use the office serving the person’s actual residence, and ask for the appropriate long-term care screening route.

If a family is unsure whether the next call belongs with social services, a health plan, or a home care agency, we can help sort out the question. We are an independent provider; we do not make the government eligibility determination.

Already approved and looking for a Richmond agency?

Families often reach us after receiving a screening result or personal care authorization. Tell us what has been approved and whether another agency currently provides care. We review the relevant information, our ability to meet the needs, and the next steps for enrollment or transfer.

An agency choice should include more than whether a provider answers the phone. Ask who supervises care, how schedule changes are handled, how family caregiver applications are reviewed, and what happens when needs change.

Already caring for someone you love?

Tell us if a family member already provides regular assistance. Some eligible Medicaid members may receive authorized personal care from a qualifying relative. Family relationship, living arrangements, the member’s approval, and caregiver qualifications all matter. Our family caregiver guide explains what to discuss.

A to Z offers an agency-directed approach, with agency employment functions and registered nurse guidance and oversight. We do not promise that a relative will be hired or that existing unpaid care can be paid retroactively. Ask about free PCA classes if training is needed.

Choose the next step that matches your situation

Not yet screened? Start with Medicaid home care eligibility. Already approved? Call with the service and authorization information you have. Need temporary relief for an unpaid primary caregiver? Explore respite care.

You do not need to have every document before making an initial inquiry. A short description of the daily help needed and what has already happened is enough to begin a useful conversation. Call first before sending sensitive documents by fax or another channel.

Questions families ask

Do you have a separate office in Richmond?

We list one office contact address in Midlothian and serve people at home across the confirmed service area. This is a service-area page, not a claim of an additional office.

Do you serve nearby communities?

Call us about any location outside Richmond, Henrico, or Chesterfield so we can confirm service availability. We do not assume every surrounding county is covered.

Can I bring my current caregiver?

We can review that possibility. The caregiver must meet applicable requirements, and service authorization and onboarding must be coordinated.
